The three units have different heat concentrations and different heated areas. We recommend a unit based on the nature of your project.

Veneer is glued onto the base wood. The infrared rays heat some of the base wood, the glue, the veneer wood, and the varnish or paint. Therefore, it is too difficult to scrape the coating off without damaging the veneer. Although we do not like chemical strippers, as they can be harsh on the wood, it is easier to control how many layers of coating are removed. We recommend SOY GEL Paint Stripper, made by Blue Bear, as a more gentle, “Green” liquid stripper.

Likely, the paint will soften, but scraping without damaging the tile surface would be difficult. We recommend a chemical stripper if this is the only project you have on your list.

Infrared heat might work on metal. But it depends on how thin the metal is. The thicker the metal, the less likely IR will heat all the paint layers for scraping.

The infrared heat may soften the paint on bricks or stone. However, scrapers can only remove the top surface coating. The paint in the pits of the bricks or on irregularly surfaced stone might still remain. Some people report success using a wire brush after the surface paint has been heated and removed.

The Speedheater™ does remove thick paint from plaster, most of the time. We cannot say yes with the same certainty as we do with paint on wood. If the paint is very thick, it likely will work. If the surface is very rough and not smooth, the scraping would be difficult. We do have customers who have used it successfully on plaster ceilings.

We recommend using our Protection Aluminum Mat. It is ideal for safeguarding areas you don’t want affected by Infrared heat.

It may if the paint is thick.  Test an area first. We recommend using a wire brush once you get to the porous/delicate nature vs concrete – it depends on how soft the paint is and the effectiveness of the brushes used to remove.

Moderate mess – The paint softens and comes off in larger, pliable strips or chips rather than turning into dust.

Easier cleanup – Scrapings can be collected on a plastic sheet nd safely bagged. This is especially important if lead paint is present.

Yes, but only if misused. If you hold the tool too close for too long, especially with the Speedheater™ Cobra (which works very quickly), the surface can scorch or darken. Read the manual instructions to learn the recommended heating time.
