– Blood, Sweat, Tears & Infrared: Our path to a Preservation Award –

We were pleased hear from Jesse Horning and Patrick Kinz-Thompson – from Rochester, NY. They told us of the benefits of using the Speedheater™ Cobra in their window restoration project, as part of award winning historic home restoration work.

“Now on our second historic home restoration, the Speedheater Cobra has become my go-to for paint removal. We rehabilitated our first house, a 1908 three unit in a historic district. After researching the benefits of restoring windows versus replacing them and taking a class with expert Steve Jordan, I restored 12 sashes using the Cobra, Dutchman repairs, and linseed oil paint.

“In 2023, the Landmark Society of Western NY awarded us the ‘Blood, Sweat, and Tears’ award for our work on our first house and our new project, a 1918 single family in another historic district. I always recommend the Cobra to other old house folks looking to restore their windows or woodwork.”

Many thanks to Jesse and Patrick, for sharing their Speedheater renovation story!

– A Safer Way to Strip Paint? They Say It’s Addictive… –

We were pleased to hear from Danny and Christina Pitcher, owners of D Gilpin Properties – a family owned real estate solutions company based in Charleston, SC. They are passionate about preservation, and use the Speedheater™ Cobra in their projects. Here are Danny and Christina’s experiences of using the Cobra, in their own words…

“We’ve used the Speedheater Cobra on a few projects now, and it’s quickly become one of our favorite tools for paint removal. It’s especially handy for detailed jobs. We recently used it to strip a 1960s front door and again on a bathroom vanity. The infrared heat makes the paint bubble up cleanly without damaging the wood underneath, which is great when you’re trying to preserve original character. We also love that it’s a non-toxic alternative to chemical strippers. It heats up fast, is easy to control, and feels a lot safer to use. Honestly, once you get the hang of it, it’s kind of addictive. We’ve already got plans to pull it out again for an upcoming window restoration!”

– Real Restoration: Speedheaters at The Wood Window Clinic –

Thanks for the mention to Eco-Strip customer Frank Gibbs, Craftsman and Founder of The Wood Window Clinic in Toldeo, OH. During a recent demonstration that even caught the attention of a TV network, Frank showed why Speedheater™ Infrared paint strippers are essential tools for professional window restoration work. Frank’s words are below…

“Window clinic pictures from this past Saturday. Stripped, sanded, glass removed and cleaned, then new linseed glazing putty. Ready for primer and paint then onto the next sash for the local 624 Delaware project.

This window is the large front porch window of the house and I was very excited to show this great group how to restore a window. Got to show off my weird glazing technique but also show off how incredible the Eco-Strip Speedheater systems are and how to utilize both the Cobra and the 1100.

Oh and we got to show 13 Action News some of the restoration steps too!”
